Hello!
We know the wait is agonising.
There are probably dogs howling at the moon, praying to the God of Squirrels to let them free in the wilderness of the Wild-Woods.
The weather, has not been good. I’m sure your tumble dryer and dog towels have reminded you of this every day for weeks.
Nothing will stop us achieving the goal of making the most exiting, invigorating and natural experience of the Wild-Woods.
Not even 80km/hr gale force winds which blew over a dozen or so 20m+ tall trees.
Yes, it’s true!
As you can see in the pictures, we had a bit of a disaster when the winds tore down lots of trees, creating an unbelievable amount of extra work and creativity on our part.

Can’t see the wood for the fallen trees!
The good thing is, it has happened before we opened!
This silver lining is the tree that could have been a risk have now all fallen, thanks to Mother Nature. It has taught us to be extra conscientious when the weather is severe.
Be aware there may be the odd day or two in the year when we decide to lock the gate and avoid the possibility of any harm due to severe weather. It just makes sense.
It pains us to inform you of the delay, but; we promise you spring will be the spring of all springs. Bringing with it new beginnings, budding friendships and nostalgia for noses.
Poll results & feedback
In the last newsletter, we added a poll for your feedback. Here are the results.:

It’s great to see the variety will be very much appreciated.

I guess the decision is made, to not split the park!
Like we said, your votes and opinions really do count.
We’ll leave the Wild-Woods as an open space without gates or fencing to separate it.
We really enjoyed reading all your comments. These have given us some great insight into your feelings, perceptions and reasoning to using the parks.
XL Bullies & Dangerous Dogs
We are super pleased to inform you we are able to continue to facilitate ALL DOGS at the park.
Without getting too much into the politics, blame game or finger pointing, we were worried about not being able to provide a safe and secure space for dogs on the ‘naughty list’.
We ere on the side that feels its not the responsible owners with ANY type of dog but more the irresponsible owners with ANY type of dog that sadly leads to the horrific incidents we have all heard about recently.
Sadly, there are irresponsible dog owners out there and this is part of the reason why we built the park in the first place.
It’s always the responsible owners who have to foot the bill and suffer the consequences at the end of the day. Sad, but true.
On the flip side, our hearts go out to anyone affected by a dog attack, as it’s a truly terrifying experience.
On the rare occasions our own dogs have gotten into fisticuffs with another dog is enough to want us never let them experience it again, never mind a fellow hooman.
Hooray for secure dog parks all over the country! The more the merrier.
It’s quite depressing that so many dogs are being PTS, dumped and passed on to the shelters. Especially for those owners who are responsible, caring and spend time training their lovable beast, but simply can’t afford all the repeated fees and restraints because their dog slips into a ‘category’ of a certain anatomy. (Yeah, there’s more to it but you get my drift).
Although, we’re not naive, there is always the exception to the rule. After all, there’s a few hoomans on the planet presently that could do with a gentle shove off the edge of the earth. (It is still flat…isn’t it?)
The good news….
Below is a transcript from our insurance company which has been adapted for anyone wanting to use the park with their XL Bully or any other dog on the list.
We simply wish to maintain the park for everyone and ensure its longevity and access for all dogs, so, if the requirements are relevant to you, please follow the rules strictly.
We will soon update our booking site ‘requirements’ check boxes but if you wish to bring an XL or other registered dog please follow the guide below:
FIELD HIRE
As your insurer, you will be covered to hire out your private fields for an XL Bully Dog on the following basis:
The dog is registered with the index of exempted dog (IED) and a copy of the life certificate is obtained and provided to us in the event of a claim.
A copy of the life certificate MUST be provided to DGSWP prior to booking to prove the registration is up to date and valid.
A copy of the public liability insurance certificate for the dog is obtained and provided to us in the event of a claim.
A copy of the public liability certificate MUST be provided to DGSWP prior to booking to prove the insurance is up to date and valid.
The dog handler ratio is 1:1 with their handler at all times
The dog is Neutered – in line with Government Rules
The dog is Micro Chipped
The field is private property with no public access passing through
The field is securely fenced and locked so the dog cannot escape
The dog is kept on a lead and muzzled until the gate is shut when entering the field
The dog is put back on a lead and muzzled before opening the gate to leave the field
You can remove the lead and muzzle once inside the secured field
As a side note, we have a 100% secure and safety record. Not one escapee in over 3 years, but; please make sure before you unleash your dog, that you have had a walk of one loop of the field to make sure the perimeter is safe and sealed before unleashing and taking off the muzzle.
We hope those with dogs on the naughty list find DGSWP’s a happy place.
